Future projects

The opening night scheduled on the 8th of December at Csiky Gergely Hungarian State Theatre Timișoara opens to a debate about private property and family in today’s society. Its starting point is given by the true case of a group of intellectuals who decide in 1975 to live in a commune, having equal rights and obligations. The text written by Thomas Vintenberg and Mogens Rukov, The Commune was chosen by the director Radu-Alexandru Nica for his second collaboration with the Hungarian Theatre after the success with Scorched.

The main characters, Erick and Anna, are a strong couple and they decide to try the experiment of living in a commune with five other persons who share their ideological values. In their extended family there is a moment of crisis when Erick falls in love with another woman, questioning the concepts of property, solidarity and responsibility. In order to render the hippie universe from the beginning of the 1970s, Ioana Popescu has created a set design which abounds in colours, retro patterns and hairstyles. The cast consists of: Bandi András Zsolt, Éder Enikő, Szilasi Eszter Júlia, Kocsárdi Levente, Aszalos Géza, Borbély B. Emília, Tar Mónika, Molnár Bence and Szabó Abigél, student of the Bartók Béla Theoretical Highschool from Timisoara. “The benefits of living in a commune are multiple and we miss them profoundly today, when we are lonely, alienated, but one cannot neglect the other side of the coin - interpersonal relations, especially family relations, are changed forever, the results are unpredictable and often traumatising. The commune is, thus, a good starting point to talk about family in the 21st century and about the current society crisis.” – says director Radu-Alexandru Nica.

“The Commune” will be performed in January. It is recommended for spectators aged 14 and older. The performance is simultaneously translated. For further information, please contact the Ticket Office, tel. no +40752111803, +40356450606. ticket@tm-t.ro.
