OPEN CALL – TESZT16 – Euroregional Theatre Festival Timișoara
May 23–31, 2026 | Timișoara
FRONT LINES

Since 2008, the Euroregional Theatre Festival Timișoara,  organised by the Hungarian State Theatre ‘Csiky Gergely’, a minority theatre in a multilingual city, has been one of the most important theatrical dialogue spaces in the euroregion. This year, it triggers the question: how can we exist and coexist in an age of division marked by war and post-war realities, migration, rising populism and right wing extremism, digital polarisation and climate crisis?

The 16th edition of TESZT – the Euroregional Theatre Festival Timișoara will take place between May 23–31, 2026, in Timișoara, Romania, a former European Capital of Culture and a historic city of democratic uprisings and cultural diversity.

FRONT LINES – the keyword of this edition – invites us to perceive both outer and inner boundaries.

Part of our multi-year focus on DIVERGENCES, TESZT16 – FRONT LINES looks at the burning fault lines that cut through families, cities, digital spaces and political borders – seen from feminist and minority perspectives in Europe and around Timișoara.

Front – as a space of conflict or a social arena shaped by divergent truths and contradictory perceptions of reality.

Front – in its digital form, constantly rearmed with the newest online arsenal, where a precarious balance unfolds between the visibility that legitimizes existence and the vulnerability that slips into every digital interaction.

Front – which, when viewed from a feminine perspective, carries the imprint of strength and aggression, where the woman appears as a counterforce to destruction, approaching conflict through the lens of care and survival.

We welcome theatre, dance, performance, musical, puppet theater and animation performances, site-specific and hybrid projects, including works that engage with the city, with digital space or with communities as part of their artistic language, from both independent and institutional backgrounds, and including work for adult or young audiences.”

TESZT16 – Applications must include:

• Information about the company / theatre / artist
• Information about the performance: synopsis, artistic team, cast, duration, premiere date, festival participations, awards

• Detailed budget (transport of people and set, fees, copyrights, etc.)
• Full video recording of the performance (Vimeo / YouTube / Drive link – no file transfers), with Romanian/Hungarian/English translation if needed
