Dear Friends,
Throughout the theatre season, we often meet on stage or in the auditorium, at rehearsals and performances, at festivals at home and abroad, or at various professional events. Yet there are only a few occasions when we can simply be together, not as theatre professionals or audience members, but as members of the same community.
This sense of community and togetherness lies at the heart of theatreGAMES.
It is neither a professional theatre event nor a sporting competition in the traditional sense. Its significance does not stem from artistic achievements or athletic results, but from the shared experience it creates year after year. For three days, theatre makers, theatre enthusiasts and audiences come together to celebrate everything that connects us: our commitment to theatre, the joy of play, the freedom of movement and the value of spending time together.
Because sports and theatre have more in common than one might think at a first glance. Both are built on trust, attention and cooperation. Both require dedication, perseverance, courage, team spirit and solidarity. And both are at their best when they become a meaningful shared experience.
That is why we invite everyone to Timișoara once again this year: those who would like to step away from everyday routines, reconnect with old friends, make new ones, stay active, cheer others on, play, or simply enjoy themselves and recharge before the new season begins.
Between August 27 and 29, before the curtain rises on the new theatre season, the ProTeszt Association and the Csiky Gergely Hungarian State Theatre of Timișoara will once again theatreGAMES (formerly known as the Actor’s World Championships or simply the Actors’ Olympics), an international amateur sporting event.
People of all ages are welcome to participate in the competitions of theatreGAMES, whether as competitors or spectators. Members of local and international theatre companies, artists, technical staff, theatre lovers and anyone interested in the event are invited to join. The programme includes all the traditional events and disciplines: cycling, tennis, table tennis, badminton, archery (baranta), five-a-side football, streetball, beach volleyball, athletics (100 m, 800 m and 3000 m races, 4×100 m relay, long jump and shot put), pentathlon, dragon boat racing, relay races, chess and a cooking competition.
The registration deadline is 17 August. The participation fee is 150 RON until 17 August and 200 RON after 18 August or on-site. The fee may also be paid in Hungarian forints or euros at the current exchange rate. Admission to the event is free for the public. Participation in the sports competitions and other competitive events is subject to prior registration and payment of the participation fee. For participants arriving from outside Timișoara, accommodation and meals can be provided upon request.
Registration for theatreGAMES is completed by filling in the registration form and paying the participation fee.
